Neutral Boho Nursery Reveal | One Room Challenge: Week 6

The past 6 weeks have been a journey to creating a special space for our daughter through the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home and House Beautiful. We’ve painted, cut, built, installed, sweated, and smiled as the nursery has come together just in time for our girl to arrive. You can check out the progress over the past 5 weeks below.

Week 1 | Nursery Mood Board ~ Week 2 | IKEA Algot Closet Makeover ~ Week 3 | Modern Shiplap Wall ~ Week 4 | DIY Book Ledges ~ Week 5 | Repurposed Dresser and Chalk Paint Recipe

Here’s a glimpse of what the room looked like before (I had already cleared most of it out and moved our rug and glider in). It served as a guest/storage/catch-all room. It was nice to finally clean it out, organize, and get rid of a bit of the clutter.

IKEA Algot Closet Makeover

The first project we tackled was the closet. It had holes in the walls and the shelves were warped, so it was something we couldn’t ignore. We went with the affordable IKEA Algot closet system. It has added so much more usable storage space for all the sweet baby girl dresses and tiny shoes, but it’s also functional for a full-sized human as well.

Modern Shiplap Wall and DIY Book Ledges

The next two projects required us to bring out the power tools. The faux shiplap wall and custom book ledges made the room a completely different space than what it was before. The projects combined cost less than $150, which is pocket change when you compare it to either $2,000 bill for hiring a contractor to do the work or purchasing four 3′ long book ledges at a store. We also added crown molding before installing the planks. It’s amazing how crown molding finishes a space. We eventually want to add it in the other two bedrooms as well.

Since this room gets so much sun, blackout curtains were a must. I order these on a whim from Wayfair, and the color ended up being perfect!

Repurposed Dresser and Yarn Wall Hanging

Lastly, came the stuff that I enjoy the most: the pretty things. I found the perfect dresser on a local sell and swap site that I repurposed as a changing table. It’s a piece that we will use for so many years to come. I absolutely love how it turned out. I also made a 3’x3′ yarn wall hanging. The yarn pulls all of the colors of the room together and provides texture to the large wall that is anchored by the crib.

The nursery is now my favorite room in the house for a several reasons. One being that I love the color pallet of navy, gold, blush pink, and natural wood. Those colors are easily found throughout the rest our home. The second reason being the natural light and good vibes this room emits. The sun shines so brightly in there during the late afternoon, and the child-like elements of the books, stuffed animals, and quirky elements make the room purely an inviting and a cozy space to grow and learn. Lastly, this room is my new favorite because it’s a sign that our family has been blessed with a child. I’ve dreamed of being a mother for so long. The reality of finally getting to create a space for our child that I pray is only the best of me and my husband fills me with complete joy. The love I have for her doesn’t compare to anything that I’ve ever known or done. Now all that’s left is to fill the crib with the incredibly blessing that God has graciously created for us.

By the way, I was just searching for Ikea Algot closet and your pin came up in Google images as one of the first images! Thought you’d like to know 😉
