Perfectly Paired Knobs and Pulls

choosing knobs and pulls

Cabinet hardware is often considered the jewelry of your kitchen. Simply changing out the hardware can completely transform your kitchen. With it being one of the most inexpensive ways to update your space, choosing the right knobs and pulls can be a daunting task. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite classic pairs of knobs and pulls below to fit many styles.

There’s an endless possibility with cabinet hardware these days from very affordable to high-end and trendy to classic. A few basic guidelines to go by when choosing hardware would be to choose a quality solid metal with clean lines and a classic finish. This will guarantee that your cabinet hardware, one of the most touched surfaces in your home, will last for years-and-years to come.

Disclaimer: Liberty Hardware gifted products in exchange for content. All thoughts and opinions on their product are my own.

In my first kitchen remodel, I chose an inexpensive IKEA pull. They looked good and did the job, but after recently adding Liberty Hardware knobs and pulls to my current remodel*, the difference was astonishing. You can immediately feel the quality as soon as you pick it up. One knob weighs just as much as a large IKEA pull. It gives me reassurance that these knobs and pulls will last just as long as my solid oak cabinets. Also Liberty Hardware prides themselves for being an affordable, stylish option that can be easily found at Lowes and Home Depot.

Now that you know what to look for in hardware, choosing a knob and pull combo can be tough. You’ll want to look for ones within the same brand to guarantee the same finish. You’ll also want to think about the style and lines of your chosen knob or pull. It looks best when they have the same look and feel to achieve a cohesive design.

Quick Tip: Knobs are typically used on doors while pulls are left for drawers. This isn’t the end all be all rule though. Many kitchens only use one or the other.

Choosing the Right Hardware for Your Kitchen

My thought process for choosing the hardware for my kitchen (option 2) was solely based on finish and style. I love the look of brass on green or blue cabinets and my kitchen design has a vintage eclectic feel, so the Soft Industrial knobs and pulls was an easy choice for me.

It’s easier to visualize the overall style of your space if you create a basic design board using Photoshop, Canva, or even Microsoft Word. (You can find all the sources from my kitchen design board on THIS POST.) I ended up going with the Soft Industrial Pull instead of the cup pull in my original plan since the cup pull was a little large for my drawers than I thought they would be.

If you’re looking at my with a dazed and confused look by now but still interested in updating your kitchen hardware, my best advice is to go with a classic polished nickel set of knobs and pulls such as options 1 or 3. Most sets above come in a few different finishes, so if you like the look of a certain knob but not the finish, check the product link for more options. Your cabinet hardware will instantly give your kitchen a face lift by giving your cabinets a clean, updated feel for around $100-$200 (depending on kitchen size).
